A look at the region’s latest residential projects – WSOC TV

GASTON COUNTY, NC – A county neighboring Charlotte to the west is experiencing a development boom across the board – and that includes on the residential side.

Gaston County, which is experiencing a wave of new development, led by the industrial sector and the Catawba Two Kings Casino project, is where some of the larger Charlotte area residential projects are being targeted.

Among those major projects are plans by Suncrest Real Estate & Land for no fewer than 877 residential units on a nearly 326-acre site south of Gastonia. It must still receive the necessary approvals from the city before it can move forward – a public hearing for an annexation and an award of zoning applications is scheduled for tomorrow.

Real estate asset management company Walton Global Holdings also recently acquired 217 acres southwest of Gastonia, with plans for a large single-family residential project there in the future. And Habitat for Humanity just opened a community of 28 mixed-income homes north of Belmont.

However, a recently proposed project in Gastonia suffered a major setback. The city’s planning board in February rejected a rezoning request – disputed by neighbors – from Southwood Realty for a mixed-use project comprising 194 apartments and 14 single-family homes, the Gaston Gazette reported.

Closer to the town centre, there is another major development in the works along the edge of the South End and the town centre. A 31-story tower planned for a site off West Carson Boulevard will include 100 apartments, in addition to office and retail space and a hotel.

A recent sale of land by The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery around its southern beer garden and production operations will make way for a 350 multi-family unit development, and developers have started work on a pair of projects that will bring benefits offices and a 290 unit apartment complex at a site adjacent to Optimist Hall.
